Pakistan’s technology sector is showing strong signs of progress as IT export earnings recorded another major increase in April 2026. According to data released by the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP), the country earned $423 million from IT and technology-related services during the month, highlighting the growing international demand for Pakistani digital expertise.
The latest figures represent a 33% increase compared to April last year, when exports stood at $317 million. The sector also posted steady monthly growth, rising from $413 million in March 2026 and maintaining export revenues above the $400 million mark for yet another month.
The consistent performance reflects the rapid expansion of Pakistan’s digital economy and the increasing role of the IT sector in strengthening the country’s foreign exchange reserves.
During the first 10 months of fiscal year 2025-26, Pakistan’s cumulative IT exports climbed to $3.81 billion, compared to $3.15 billion during the same period of the previous fiscal year. This growth of 21% demonstrates the sector’s resilience and its growing competitiveness in international markets.
Officials from the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication noted that the country has already exceeded the total IT export earnings achieved during the entire previous fiscal year, even before FY26 has ended.
Industry experts believe several factors are driving this upward trend. Pakistani software companies, freelancers, and technology startups are increasingly attracting international clients in areas such as software engineering, cloud computing, digital support services, and business process outsourcing.
The rise of freelancing platforms and improved online payment systems have also made it easier for Pakistani professionals to work with global clients and receive payments efficiently. As a result, thousands of skilled workers are contributing to export growth through remote digital services.
Analysts also point to the growing reputation of Pakistan’s tech talent in global markets. Many local startups and software houses are expanding operations and targeting clients in North America, Europe, the Middle East, and other regions.
Adviser to the Finance Minister on Economic Affairs Khurram Shehzad described April’s performance as the second-highest monthly IT export figure ever recorded by Pakistan, calling it another positive sign for the country’s digital economy.
The IT industry has become one of Pakistan’s most promising economic sectors, offering opportunities for employment, entrepreneurship, and foreign investment. With continued policy support, digital infrastructure development, and investment in skills training, the sector could play a major role in Pakistan’s long-term economic growth.
As global businesses increasingly rely on digital solutions and remote services, Pakistan’s expanding IT industry appears well-positioned to benefit from the worldwide shift toward technology-driven economies.
