The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) is reinforcing its commitment to tackling smuggling and protecting legitimate trade by deepening coordination with customs authorities and law enforcement agencies across the country. A recent high-level visit to Customs House Quetta on 8–9 January 2026 highlighted this collaborative approach, particularly in the strategically important province of Balochistan.

The FBR delegation was led by Syed Shakeel Shah, Member (Customs Operations), Islamabad, accompanied by Mr. Basit Maqsood Abbasi, Chief Collector Customs Enforcement, Islamabad. Senior customs officials in Balochistan, including Mr. Masood Ahmed, Chief Collector (Appraisement) and Dr. Karam Elahi, Collector (Enforcement), Quetta, welcomed the team and participated in detailed discussions on regional enforcement challenges.

During the visit, officials reviewed trade flows in the province, assessed the effectiveness of intelligence-driven operations, and examined progress in revenue recovery. Special emphasis was placed on counter-smuggling measures, given Balochistan’s extensive border areas and its critical role in regulating cross-border trade.

Engagement with the business community was another key element of the visit. Representatives of the Quetta Chamber of Commerce and Industry shared their concerns related to trade facilitation and customs procedures. In response, the FBR leadership issued immediate directions to address legitimate issues, reaffirming the authority’s commitment to supporting lawful business activity.

To further enhance enforcement capacity, the delegation inaugurated two new Customs Enforcement units, aimed at improving surveillance and operational reach. The officials also took part in a tree-planting activity, reflecting the organization’s focus on environmental responsibility alongside institutional development.

A joint coordination meeting with various law enforcement agencies, including the Frontier Corps and Pakistan Coast Guards, marked a significant step toward improved border management. The session focused on information sharing, joint operations, and coordinated strategies to disrupt smuggling networks and curb illegal trade.

Concluding the visit, FBR officials praised the efforts of customs formations in Balochistan, acknowledging their vital role in safeguarding revenue and strengthening enforcement. The visit reaffirmed FBR’s resolve to continue working closely with law enforcement partners to ensure transparent trade practices and economic stability.
