FBR Extends Deadline and Offers Free Support for Manual Tax Filers in Tax Year 2024
Islamabad, November 4, 2025 — The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), under the Revenue Division, Government of Pakistan, has issued Circular No. 6 of 2025-26 (IR-Operations) aimed at encouraging erstwhile manual filers of income tax returns to transition smoothly into the online filing system.
Digitization of Tax Data
In line with the government’s ongoing digital transformation agenda, FBR has officially discontinued manual income tax returns starting this year. The move seeks to fully digitize all tax data and enhance efficiency through the online return filing system.
While this modernization drive is being applauded, the FBR acknowledges that some taxpayers who had been filing manually till 2024 may face difficulties adapting to the new process. To address this concern, the Board has announced a series of supportive measures.
Special Assistance former Manual Filers
As a special facilitation, FBR has decided to establish dedicated support cells in every tax office across Pakistan. These cells will provide comprehensive assistance — including legal and technical support — to help affected taxpayers file their returns online without hassle.
To further ease the transition, the return filing deadline for such taxpayers has been extended till November 30, 2025. This extension is granted under Section 214A of the Income Tax Ordinance, 2001.
Free Registration and Legal Support
In an encouraging step, FBR has directed its field offices to assist these taxpayers with free registration and online return filing services. Moreover, if taxpayers require any legal assistance, the FBR field offices will provide lawyer services free of cost during this transition year.
Conclusion
This initiative reflects FBR’s commitment to supporting taxpayers during Pakistan’s transition to a fully digital tax environment. By offering extended deadlines, free legal aid, and technical assistance, FBR aims to ensure that no taxpayer is left behind in the process of modernization.
Taxpayers are encouraged to contact their nearest tax office for guidance and assistance in filing their 2024 income tax returns before the extended deadline of November 30, 2025.
