According to the press release, FBR has issued a notification amending the baggage scheme. Lifting import exemption restrictions of the imported duty-free goods. In the new regulations, people will be allowed to import one mobile phone for personal use from abroad only.
The FBR has noted that goods costing more than $1,200 will be the subject of that type of commercial trade. Specifically, all mobile phones in excess of the aforementioned one-phone per person will be taken away. Further, extra goods will not be cleared irrespective of the fact that duties, taxes, penalties have been paid.
A draft of further amendments to the Baggage Rules 2006 has also been put out for consideration. Different stakeholders are given only a week to provide their opinions concerning these changes. Although the FBR has stated that any observation or recommendation given to it, after the set date will not be considered.
